The 3.3 million-square-foot, state-of-the-art high-rise marks the architectural firm\u2019s first commission in Japan.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Y2 project represents the continued expansion of our practice internationally. It has been a tremendous honor to be working with Mitsui Fudosan on such a significant project in the context of historic Tokyo Station and the regeneration of the Yaesu district,\u201d<\/em> William Chilton, principal &amp; co-founder of Pickard Chilton, told <em>Commercial Property Executive<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Real estate developer Mitsui Fudosan, which is managing Y2 on behalf of a committee of landowners, tapped New Haven, Conn.-based Pickard Chilton to take on the job of creating a vision for the integrated and urban community. Y2 will stand 787 feet atop a retail podium and below-grade transportation hub in Ch\u016b\u014d ward in the heart of metropolitan Tokyo. The sustainable property will comprise premier office space, a 98-key Bulgari Hotel on floors 39 through 45 and an elementary school.<\/p>\n<p>Y2\u2019s height is designed to give the building a prominent position on Yaesu district&#8217;s skyline and its curved facade, reminiscent of a sail, is an ode to the site\u2019s origins as a canal moat of a historic castle.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt has been a highly rewarding experience to work on a complex project of such an impressive scale with our partner, [architectural and engineering firm] Nihon Sekkei,\u201d<\/em> Chilton added.<\/p>\n<h2>Growing project portfolio<\/h2>\n<p>Pickard Chilton has its fingerprints on a bevy of projects that recently delivered. In March 2018, the architecture studio announced the completion of two notable projects in Houston, including the approximately 1.1 million-square-foot 609 Main at Texas, a next-generation office tower standing 48 stories in the central business district. In Houston\u2019s Uptown District, the sustainably-designed, 860,000-square-foot Amegy Bank Tower made its debut, with 23 stories sheathed in high-performance, floor-to-ceiling glass. Most recently, the Pickard Chilton-designed 2+U, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/skanska-tops-out-seattle-office-tower\/\">686,000-square-foot waterfront office development in Seattle<\/a>, topped out in November 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Y2 is on schedule to deliver in 2022. <em>&#8220;The significance of the Y2 Project cannot be overstated, as it will redefine the urban landscape for Tokyo Station and the Yaesu district for years to come,\u201d<\/em> Chilton said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n<p><em>Image&nbsp;courtesy of Pickard Chilton<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 3.3 million-square-foot mixed-use Y2 is scheduled to reach completion in 2022.
