Germany\u2019s thyssenkrupp Elevator recently landed an approximately $130 million contract with Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group, developers of the $20 billion Hudson Yards mixed-use complex on Manhattan\u2019s Far West Side, to install elevators and escalators for various buildings at the 18 million-square-foot project.<\/p>\n

\u201cDesigning a neighborhood from scratch created a tremendous opportunity for the development team to partner with industry leaders, like thyssenkrupp<\/a>, and build a true 21st century neighborhood,\u201d<\/em> Philippe Visser, president of Related Office Development, said in a prepared statement. \u201cForward-thinking office tenants at Hudson Yards expect state-of-the-art infrastructure and an unmatched employee experience\u2014thyssenkrupp is the type of leading-edge company that makes it possible.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

At the 2.9 million-square-foot 50 Hudson Yards office skyscraper<\/a>, thyssenkrupp will provide as many as 40 elevator systems in one shaft. Twenty-seven elevators will be installed at the 1.3 million-square-foot 55 Hudson Yards office tower<\/a>, and 12 elevator and escalator units will be put in place at The Shed, a 200,000-square-foot multi-arts center. The contract also calls for thyssenkrupp to deliver building transportation solutions for the 1 million-square-foot The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards retail center.<\/p>\n

Thyssenkrupp will employ its TWIN elevator system at the 50 Hudson Yards building. TWIN, which the company also plans to install in the elevator test tower at its $200 million U.S. headquarters development<\/a> in metropolitan Atlanta, facilitates the independent functioning of two elevator cars in a single shaft, thereby allowing for a more efficient use of space and the accommodation of as much as 40 percent more passengers.<\/p>\n

Additionally, thyssenkrupp will support its product at Hudson Yards by providing its MAX predictive maintenance service, which is the first-cloud based solution in the elevator industry. \u201cMAX will help ensure maximum uptime by identifying potential issues before they happen, exemplifying the actionable or smart intelligence that\u2019s required to meet modern mobility or building transportation challenges,\u201d<\/em> a spokesperson with thyssenkrupp Elevator told Commercial Property Executive<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Altogether, thyssenkrupp will design and install more than 100 elevators and escalators across the Hudson Yards development.<\/p>\n
