The new project, MTL-R1B, will add another 10 megawatts to the existing power capacity. Approximately 20 percent of the upcoming expansion is preleased.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The existing MTL-R1 facility is a 16,000-square-foot data center that already delivers 5 megawatts of critical IT power, provided by a nearby substation. The Tier III design features cabinet and cage configurations, with an average power density of 6 kW per rack, or 272 watts per square foot. The data center has a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.15. The data centers operated by ROOT run almost entirely on hydroelectric power.<\/p>\n<p>ROOT\u2019s newest data center will be carrier-neutral, tapping into more than 50 networks, including dark fiber, local providers and global telecoms. The campus is situated about 10 minutes away from the Montreal International Airport, approximately 15 minutes from downtown Montreal. MTL-R2, ROOT\u2019s other facility in the metro, which provides 20 megawatts (scalable up to 50 MW), is situated approximately 19 miles away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>As their businesses grow, our customers depend upon us to provide the additional capacity necessary to ensure expansion can take place and meet the increasingly fast growth rates.
