Skanska has been awarded a $188.3 million contract for the development of a new acute care building at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Hollywood, Calif. CHA Hollywood Medical Center L.P. selected Skanska as the general contractor.<\/p>\n

The five-story, 175,000-square-foot building will replace the existing emergency department and kitchen, and include a medical\/surgical patient unit, labor and delivery department, NICU, clinical lab, morgue and information technology services.<\/p>\n

The architect of record is KMD Architects. The project, which will be completed in late 2020, broke ground in May, Vice President Jason Groshart of Skanska USA told Commercial Property Executive<\/em>. This $291 million project represents the final portion of a three-phase, $350 million campus upgrade, he explained.<\/p>\n

In addition, demolition and upgrades of various existing structures are required to support the new tower, including remodeling approximately 20,000 square feet of the adjacent patient tower. Other work includes renovating the courtyard and lobby, construction of a new ramp for the current parking structure and relocation of existing site utilities.<\/p>\n

Hospitals from coast to coast<\/h2>\n

As usual, Skanska remains busy with significant hospital projects. Almost a year ago, the company kicked off a $343 million, 204-bed facility<\/a> for Inspira Health Network in Mullica Hill, N.J. The five-story, 467,000-square-foot building will encompass operating rooms, an emergency department, imaging suites and administrative, dining and support services, as well as a new central utility plant.<\/p>\n

And just last month, in a joint venture with Gates Construction, Skanska got underway with a $229 million project at Gulf Coast Medical Center<\/a>, in Fort Myers, Fla. The project includes 48,500 square feet of renovation and a 365,700-square-foot expansion to the hospital that will total three new floors with 216 patient rooms and 52 ICU rooms.<\/p>\n
