The property previously operated as The Hotel Highland at Five Points South. The building last traded for $3.6 million in 2016, when the previous owner, Long &amp; Cox Properties, sold the hotel to avoid a potential foreclosure action, according to public records.<\/p>\n<p>Located at 1023 20th St. S. in Birmingham\u2019s Five Points South district, the eight-story hotel was initially built as a medical arts facility in 1931. The structure is positioned a 10-minute walk from the University of Alabama at Birmingham\u2019s main campus. An adjacent city-operated bus route provides convenient access throughout the metro area, and Interstate 65 runs about a mile west of the property.<\/p>\n<h2>Repositioned, reinvented<\/h2>\n<p>The property offers a mix of 35 standard guestrooms and 28 suites. Guest amenities include a fitness center, laundry services, valet parking, a 438-square-foot meeting room and complimentary Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Hotel Indigo represents our ideal portfolio addition\u2014a unique hotel in a strong secondary market that can benefit from either capital improvements and\/or improved management,\u201d<\/em> said Mike Marshall, president &amp; CEO of Marshall Hotels &amp; Resorts, in a prepared statement. <em>\u201cWhile it has served as a hotel for the past three decades, the property had seen better days. With its recent $5 million conversion to IHG&#8217;s Hotel Indigo brand, the property is now better positioned to take full advantage of its market presence.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Several hotels this year have been switching over to the IHG brand.
