We are practicing in the midst of a revolution in knowledge, awareness, technology and communication advances on sustainable practice.<span>&#160; <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">The measure of our work has shifted to the <span>triple bottom line<\/span> &#8212; sustainable success: economic, ecological and social enhancement, in balance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span><span lang=\"EN\"><\/span><\/span><\/font>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span><span lang=\"EN\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e2011168576b5c970c-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Alley24rooftop\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b6a969e2011168576b5c970c \" src=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e2011168576b5c970c-320wi\" \/><\/a>&#160; and belief &#8211; that we have an unprecedented opportunity in our hands.<span>&#160; <\/span>Immersing in ancient places that are more&#160;alive and useful&#160;today than the most modern developments in the same community is cause for reflection.<span>&#160; <\/span>Will our work and legacy will be relevant, resonant \u2013 reflective of the people, the landscape, the culture in 5 years, 10 years, 100 years?<span>&#160;&#160;<\/span><\/span><\/font> <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span><span><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span><span><\/span><span>&#160;<a href=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20105371ceab4970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"112408 047\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b6a969e20105371ceab4970b \" src=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20105371ceab4970b-320wi\" \/><\/a>&#160;&#160;<a href=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20111685764bf970c-pi\"><\/a>&#160;<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span><span>Souks of Marrakech&#160;<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span><span><\/span><\/span><\/font>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span>We recently worked with the founders of a 40 year old global product company based in Brazil <\/span><\/font>\u2013 a 4B$ business, carbon neutral last year.<span>&#160; <\/span>Their social and environmentally responsible practices are saving indigenous cultures and plant species in the rain forest through sustainable harvesting and valuation, making native plant materials an economic platform for local populations.<span>&#160; <\/span>Their business success is founded on customer relationships and loyalty based on these shared social and environmental values.<span>&#160;Sustainable practice is their way of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span><span><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20105371ceb32970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"072608 452\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b6a969e20105371ceb32970b \" src=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20105371ceb32970b-320wi\" \/><\/a>&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span><span>Sao Paulo, the edge of the rain forest<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span><span><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>In Beijing, while climbing down the precarious scaffolding of a construction site, I can see across acres of rebar and concrete the size of a small city, where 4,000 workers live on site (working 24 hours a day in three 8-hour shifts, 7 days a week) \u2013these workers all come from rural areas of China.<span>&#160; <\/span>Here they quadruple their income, all living expenses are paid, so they can send most of their earnings home to their families.<span>&#160; <\/span>Every 21 days, like time-lapse photography, an entire level of this new building rises out of the ground.<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><\/span>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><a href=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20111685765fa970c-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"4saks102504\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b6a969e20111685765fa970c \" src=\"https:\/\/cpnmhn.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b6a969e20111685765fa970c-320wi\" \/><\/a>&#160; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>Beijing construction site<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><\/span>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span>More than half of the particulate matter in the air here is from construction sites, and in the next ten to fifteen years, China\u2019s cities will need to provide housing, infrastructure and transportation for 250,000,000 additional residents.<span>&#160; <\/span>Based on UN projections, half of all new construction on the planet during this time will be in China. The opportunity and challenge of sustainable practice is now.<span>&#160; <\/span><span>&#160;<\/span><span>&#160;<\/span><\/span><\/font> <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><span><span>These global forces make sustainable development an imperative (check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.192021.org\">this website<\/a><span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.192021.org\/\"><span><\/span><\/a><span> for a perspective of world population shifts).
