Watkins Real Estate Group broke ground on The Pinnacle at Providence, a grocery-anchored neighborhood retail center\u00a0in Huntsville, Ala.\u00a0The $12 million project\u00a0is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2018.\u00a0BB&T Corp. provided the financing for the development.<\/p>\n

The 59,600-square-foot retail center will be located at the intersection of Old Monrovia Road and Johns Road,\u00a0on a 9.2-acre site acquired by Watkins in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Publix will anchor the new development. The Florida-based grocer<\/a>‘s third storefront, its tenth location in Madison County, will\u00a0occupy\u00a0more than 45,000 square feet. Courtney Murray (2,000 square feet) and Allure Nails Spa (2,200 square feet) have\u00a0also joined the tenant line-up.\u00a0The Watkins leasing team,\u00a0led by\u00a0Vice President of Development Bob Peck is currently pursuing other retail, dining and service tenants for the remaining 9,800 square feet. A 1-acre outparcel\u00a0is also available.<\/p>\n

Attractive location<\/h2>\n

More than 105,500 consumers reside within five miles of the\u00a0development\u00a0and share an average household income of nearly $80,000. The location is attractive because of its proximity to Cummings Research Park,\u00a0Madison County 911 Center and the North Alabama Dance Center.\u00a0The new retail center will also serve The Village of Providence,\u00a0a master-planned, mixed-use community in northwest Huntsville.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Huntsville trade area is the ideal market for expanding grocers,\u201d <\/em>Jay Levy, president of Watkins Real Estate Group, said in prepared remarks. \u201cThe city\u2019s total workforce tops 750,000 with nearby Cummings Research Park and Redstone Arsenal combining for a total of 24 million square feet of occupied office space that houses an approximately 65,000 worker-strong daytime population<\/em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
