Construction on the 26-story asset will begin in early 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2020. While a flag for the new hotel was not disclosed, the Tampa Bay Business Journal is reporting it could be a J.W. Marriott.<\/p>\n<p>The development team is a joint venture between Cascade Investment LLC, controlled by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and Jeff Vinik, who owns the Tampa Bay Lightning.<\/p>\n<p>According to SPP the hotel will have a four-story atrium space envisioned as an active public space for socializing and collaborating. The ground-floor will feature a full-service restaurant located at the corner of South Florida Avenue and Water Street. The sixth floor will have a spa and fitness center as well as a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, bar, event lawn and pool terrace. 10 Water Street will boast\u00a0126,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including the city\u2019s biggest ballroom.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe new hotel delivers an elevated guest experience for visitors and local residents alike by blending the indoor and outdoor experiences for a sense of understated luxury,\u201d<\/em> Bryan Moll, director of development at Strategic Property Partners, said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n<p>A rooftop lounge and terrace on the 26<sup>th<\/sup> floor will feature 360-degree views of downtown Tampa and Hillsborough Bay. The hotel is designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe &amp; Associates of Coral Gables, Fla., with interiors by Champalimaud Design of New York City.<\/p>\n<p>NBWW is one of at least 10 award-winning architectural firms working with the design of about 18 district buildings and 12.9 acres of new and enhanced public space. Others include Gensler, HOK and Baker Barrios Architects. HOK is designing the University of South Florida\u2019s Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute, which will move to a new 380,000-square-foot building by the fall of 2019.<\/p>\n<h2>Water Street Tampa<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this summer, SPP unveiled plans for the massive Tampa project, which is expected to have over 4 million square feet of office, residential, hospitality, retail and cultural space across 10 blocks of Downtown Tampa built by 2020. Subsequent phases are expected to be completed by 2027. When the project is finished, Water Street Tampa will have 2.6 million square feet of office space; 1 million square feet of retail, cultural, educational and entertainment space; 3,500 new rental and for sale residences along with two new hotels offering over 650 rooms and a renovated Marriott. It will also feature a new central cooling facility that will provide district-wide cooling and free up rooftops for landscaped terraces with city and bay views.
