The recent additions bring the occupancy of the project&#8217;s 47,000-square-foot retail section to 93 percent. NKF is handling retail leasing efforts, while Location Matters is overseeing the restaurant space.<\/p>\n<h2>Diverse tenant mix<\/h2>\n<p>A 36,000-square-foot Northgate Market anchors the development, which also includes a 13,500-square-foot retail and restaurant building. Current tenants include Mariscos el Pulpo, Little Caesars, T-Mobile, Asia Wok, Fade Factory, Iron Fist Brewing Co., National Laundry &amp; Dry Cleaning, Sally Beauty and Tocumbo Ice Cream &amp; Tortas. They will be joined by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Actitude Cerveceria, a gastropub and brewery;<\/li>\n<li>Barrio Bros, a craft beer and pizza restaurant;<\/li>\n<li>Oi Asian Fusion restaurant;<\/li>\n<li>Partners Personnel, a staffing agency;<\/li>\n<li>Pho Bo, a Vietnamese rice noodle soup caf\u00e9;<\/li>\n<li>Taqueria Revolucion, authentic street tacos; and<\/li>\n<li>Posh &amp; Polished Nail Lounge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Posh &amp; Polished (1,014 square feet) is already opened. Partners Personnel (1,869 square feet) and OI Asian Fusion (1,183 square feet) will open in the fourth quarter of this year. Barrio Bros (2,511 square feet), Pho Bo (1,691 square feet) and Taco Revoluci\u00f3n (2,857 square feet) are all anticipated to open early next year, while Actitude (4,475 square feet) is expected to open in\u00a0the second quarter of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The asset is located in an area with a population of 108,773 within a two-mile radius and an average household income of $75,954. The development is a three-minute drive to Petco Park\/San Diego Convention Center, a five-minute drive to the downtown San Diego business district and a 15-minute drive to San Diego\u2019s Lindbergh Airport.<\/p>\n<h2>Preserving cultural legacy<\/h2>\n<p>Located under the Coronado Bridge next to Chicano Park and its 79 historic murals, just off Interstate 5, the project was designed by Safdie Rabines Architects to help revitalize and preserve Barrio Logan\u2019s cultural legacy since its opening in 2013. California Arts Council selected Barrio Logan as one of California\u2019s premier state-designated cultural districts. Spurlock Poirier provided project landscape design, while PCL Construction and Valley Crest served as the contractors.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBarrio Logan is one of San Diego\u2019s hidden gems and I think people are captivated by the local culture when they visit for the first time,\u201d <\/em>Kiril McKee, senior vice president of retail leasing for Shea Properties, told\u00a0<em>CPE.<\/em>\u00a0\u201c<em>Customers and businesses have been drawn to Mercado del Barrio because of the way we\u2019ve integrated the restaurants, retailers and services into the community to create a unique, culturally authentic experience.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>McKee believes that Mercado del Barrio is more than a shopping center\u2014it\u2019s a community hub that helps bring people together and fits perfectly within the Barrio Logan neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>The development also includes Estrella del Mercado apartments, which were developed by Chelsea Investment Corp.
