Construction at The Shops at Big Deahl, the upcoming 200,000-square-foot project, will start in early 2018. The property will be built on a 2.5-acre site at the corner of Dayton and Blackhawk Streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The Big Deahl site represents one of the few remaining large sites just east of the North Branch Industrial Corridor. We recognized the incredible potential of this site over a decade ago when we started NEWCITY, just one block to the east,<\/em>\u201d said Michael Drew, founder of Structured Development, in prepared remarks.<\/p>\n<h2>Laying the groundwork<\/h2>\n<p>The plans for building The Shops at Big Deahl started in 2015, when Structured Development bought the former home of Big Deahl Productions at 1450 N. Dayton St. Another step was\u00a0the recent purchase of an adjacent property, a 40,000-square-foot office building at 855 W. Blackhawk St. The latest investment was financed with the proceeds from the sale of\u00a0a 100,000-square-foot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/structured-development-announces-100ksf-office-sale\/\">office property in Chicago\u2019s Clybourn Corridor<\/a> at 1333 N. Kingsbury, part of Structured&#8217;s portfolio.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon completion, the project will offer retail space along Blackhawk Street as well as office space at the upper floors.
