Thomas Toomey<\/p><\/div>\n

The Urban Land Institute appointed Thomas Toomey as its new global chairman. Toomey has been a longtime ULI member, trustee and Foundation governor and will serve a two-year term ending June 30, 2019. He is currently the chief executive officer, president & a director at\u00a0UDR Inc., a $16 million multifamily REIT.<\/p>\n

As global chairman, Toomey will be responsible for emphasizing the institute’s delivery of member value and mission advancement, with the goal to\u00a0ensure ULI continues to lead the future of global urban development. He will also be supporting and facilitating member efforts to advance ULI’s mission in each of the regions where it has a presence: the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Toomey will work with ULI Americas Chairman Patricia Healy, ULI Europe Chairman Jon Zehner and ULI Asia Pacific Chairman Dr. Seek Ngee Huat, to improve knowledge sharing across all ULI member networks. This includes the Institute\u2019s district and national councils, which serve members at a\u00a0local level, and the product council program, the network of members organized by property sector categories.<\/p>\n

ULI\u00a0Background<\/h2>\n

Toomey has a strong record of working\u00a0with ULI, including his new roles as global chairman of the ULI Global Board of Directors and global chairman of the ULI Foundation Board of Directors. In the past year he served as treasurer and is a longstanding member of ULI\u2019s Multifamily Product Council. He also\u00a0served on the Larson Leadership Advisory Board, chaired the Urban Innovation Grant Committee, and was co-chairman of the host committee for ULI\u2019s 2012 Fall Meeting in Denver. He’s also been actively involved in ULI Colorado.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only way to keep ULI\u2019s momentum going is to offer members new opportunities for engagement, to share lessons learned, and exchange ideas about what works best,\u201d <\/em>said Toomey, in prepared remarks. \u201cNearly everything that makes our cities exciting and interesting is tied to the use of land. If we can help more members use their ULI experience to make a difference in their communities, we can influence the future of urban growth around the world. That\u2019s a powerful imprint.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
