The Abbey Group closed a new lease<\/a> with Dell Technologies-owned cloud infrastructure and business mobility company VMware Inc. at Lafayette City Center in Boston, Mass. The firm will occupy 37,948 square feet of office space on a long-term lease and will relocate approximately 200 employees from its Cambridge, Mass., office. JLL Managing Directors Tom O\u2019Regan and Bill Barrack, Executive Vice President Ben Coffin and Vice President Dan Cavanaugh brokered the lease. The tenant is expected to move in by the end of September.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis transaction further solidifies LCC\u2019s reputation as a major attraction for innovative, world-class tech tenants in a growing district that is hot and high energy,<\/em>\u201d O\u2019Regan said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n

Recently revitalized<\/h2>\n

Located at 2 Avenue de Lafayette, the six-story, 615,000-square-foot property comprises 160,000 square feet of retail space. The asset was originally constructed in 1984 and was part of a mixed-use complex that encapsulated a former 500-key hotel and a mall, which was\u00a0converted to office in 1997. The Abbey Group completely redeveloped it in 2014 and Lafayette City Center now features a state-of-the-art open lobby, new entrance, open floor plans, refurbished interiors, 24-hour security and a three-level underground parking garage with 1,056 parking spaces. Additionally, the property has achieved LEED-certified status.<\/p>\n

Lafayette City Center sits in the midst of Boston\u2019s vibrant Downtown Crossing district, bounded by retailers, restaurants, residences, landmarks, art galleries, fitness centers, banks and the 50-acre Boston Common park. The property offers easy access throughout the entire area via 3 MBTA lines, trains and major highways, such as Massachusetts Route 3 and Massachusetts Turnpike. \u00a0<\/p>\n
