In April 2017, new orders for all manufacturing industries increased on a year-over-year basis by 2.9 percent or nearly $13 billion. The most significant changes came from Primary Metals, up 7.7 percent, followed by an increase of 6 percent for Nondurable Goods Industries. Compared to April 2016, Durable Goods Industries decreased by 0.1 percent and Transportation Equipment by 6.8 percent, while new orders have increased for the remaining industries. Compared to March 2017, new orders decreased for all industries, the biggest change coming from Transportation Equipment, down by 23.3 percent, followed by Computers and Electronic Products, down by 20 percent.
