Located at 350 Engle St., the medical facility has easy access to interstates 80 and 95. Phase one of the renovation was completed in late 2016, which included redesigning a 13,000-square foot nursing unit on the hospital\u2019s third floor and converting 14 semi-private double rooms and eight private patient rooms into 20 modern, private, 225-square-foot rooms. The utilization of the hospital\u2019s own construction crew brought construction costs under budget. RSC reworked\u00a0the tight existing floor plan and designed a waiting area, three decentralized care team stations, a patient lounge, and staff and patient support spaces that meet functional and licensing requirements.<\/p>\n
\u201cSingle occupancy rooms give patients more privacy and families more support space. It\u2019s the latest trend in health care design,\u201d<\/em> said RSC Architects President John Capazzi in prepared remarks. \u201cFor the interior, we\u2019re using warm lighting and wooden accents to create an environment that promotes emotional and physical healing.”<\/em><\/p>\nGreater functionality<\/h2>\n
Additional components of each new room include a private bathroom, 40-inch high-definition television, a convertible couch for family members and multiple power\/USB outlets. The new design contributes to greater functionality. Patient rooms are designed to enhance staff accessibility to supplies, with each room having its own supply storage outside the door. The advanced, flexible Willow Glass feature that covers the television, clock and other wall accents, helps prevent the spread of infection. The firm also introduced new energy-efficient LED illumination throughout the hospital rooms.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe used a modular manufactured construction method on the headwalls and footwalls of the rooms so we could embed the necessary technology, like medical gas outlets. We made sure our design allows for flexibility to update systems with new innovations in the field,\u201d <\/em>said Pasquale Avallone, health care manager of RSC Architects, in a prepared statement.<\/p>\nEnglewood Hospital and Medical Center employs more than 3,000 people in New Jersey and had more than 17,500 patient admissions in 2016.<\/p>\n
