The Oakland property marks the sixth market for West Elm Hotels, the retailer\u2019s hospitality venture with DDK, together with other locations announced in September 2016: Charlotte, N.C., Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Savannah, Ga. The 150-key hotel in Oakland, Calif. is expected to open in 2020.<\/p>\n<h2>The project<\/h2>\n<p>Located in the heart of the Uptown district of Oakland at 2401 Broadway, with easy access to Interstate 580, 880 and 80, the property is designed to feature:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground floor retail space;<\/li>\n<li>4,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor bar areas;<\/li>\n<li>Indoor and outdoor meeting areas with dedicated gardens;<\/li>\n<li>Lobby cafe with outdoor seating option; and<\/li>\n<li>70 adjacent residential apartments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The design<\/h2>\n<p>The mixed-use building will blend a 1910s Beaux Arts historic facade originally designed by Bay Area architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/sfs-historic-pier-70-reels-in-first-tenant\/\">Frederick Meyer<\/a>, with automotive aesthetic elements inspired by the area\u2019s vibe. The location originally served as an auto retail showroom near Chevrolet\u2019s first West Coast assembly plant.<\/p>\n<h2>The neighborhood<\/h2>\n<p>The six-story building will be adjacent to Signature\u2019s Hive, a $50 million mixed-use project designed by Flynn Architecture and The Guzzardo Partnership. The development includes 105 residential apartments, 100,000 square feet of offices, a beer garden, a coffee shop, an ice cream parlor and several upscale restaurants.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are proud to have been a part of the transformation of this neighborhood from underutilized lots to what is now a bustling scene of activity, with local entrepreneurs, artists and chefs, creating a thriving environment for the community.
