Austin, Texas<\/strong>\u2014Austin-based Hops & Grain Brewing<\/a> is the first small business to have secured $1 million in crowdfunded investment this past summer, seeking money to open a new brewery in San Marcos. The company recently signed a 10,796-square-foot lease at Crossroads Center in San Marcos, where the five-year-old brewery will house its second production facility and tasting room.<\/p>\n

Crossroads Center is an office and retail mixed-use redevelopment<\/a> of a former big box grocery located nearby Texas State University.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to start brewing test batches on our new system in San Marcos by July 2017 and if all goes well, release our first beer from the new facility in October 2017,\u201d Josh Hare, founder of Hops & Grain, said in prepared remarks. \u201cWith our new state of the art facility and large, on-site tasting room with outdoor beer garden, we look forward to opening our doors to San Marcos next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryan McMurrey and Segio Negrete of CBRE<\/a> represented the landlord, MLKSM LLC, while Lance Tindall of Tribeca Co.<\/a> represented Hops & Grain Brewing.<\/p>\n

\u201dFrom the beginning of this leasing assignment, our shared vision with real estate developer Mark Shields was to create a unique San Marcos shopping center that incorporated successful Central Texas concepts. The 150-foot bay depths and tall ceiling heights, originally built for a grocery, are challenging for many traditional retailers, but are the perfect solution for a brewery,\u201d said Bryan McMurrey, vice president with CBRE.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe loading docks are already in place, the ceiling heights can accommodate Hops & Grain\u2019s brewing equipment and the taproom is a perfect draw for the rest of the center. We couldn\u2019t be happier to welcome a best-in-class, sustainable Texas microbrewery to our center in San Marcos,\u201d added landlord Mark Shields.<\/p>\n

The team of designers working on the new space will include Philip Edgerton of Edgework Designs<\/a> for metal work, Austin Evers of Woodwork at 17<\/a> for wood elements and Lilianne Steckel Interior Design<\/a>.<\/p>\n
