Charlotte<\/strong>\u2014Locally based commercial developers Childress Klein<\/a> and Crosland Southeast<\/a> and the Matthews family have begun construction on The Hub, a six-story, 154,000-square-foot office building in south Charlotte.<\/p>\n

The Hub at Waverly in South Charlotte<\/p><\/div>\n

The project is the first of two corporate office buildings planned at Waverly<\/a>, a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly community currently under development on a 90-acre lot<\/a> at the intersection of Providence and Ardrey Kell Roads.<\/p>\n

Designed by RJT+R<\/a>, The Hub aims to achieve LEED certification. General contractor Shelco LLC<\/a> expects to complete construction in May 2017. The structure will have an architectural precast and brick fa\u00e7ade with high-performance glass. Other features include exposed ceilings, upscale modern lobbies and restrooms, a four-level 840-space parking garage, as well as flexible floor plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to begin this phase of development at Waverly,\u201d commented Paul Devine, office partner at Childress Klein. \u201cWaverly will fulfill the growing demand from businesses for a suburban location with an urban feel. We have carefully planned this project to ensure it provides the activity, walkability and vibrancy of Uptown while remaining close to employees\u2019 homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

At full build-out, Waverly will contain 250,000 square feet of retail space anchored by Whole Foods Market<\/a>; 300,000 square feet of office space across two buildings; 60,000 square feet of medical office space anchored by Novant Health<\/a>; and a 141-key Hilton Garden Inn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The development will also be home to Solis Waverly, a 375-unit upscale apartment community built by Terwilliger Pappas Multifamily Partners<\/a>. David Weekley Homes<\/a> is building approximately 150 single-family homes and townhouses. While components of the project are already open, the project is anticipated to celebrate a grand opening in spring 2017.<\/p>\n
