The approximately 160,000-square-foot building, which was designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, will house roughly 350 employees. The project is planned to break ground later this year and is slated for completion by December 2017. Skanska will maintain the O Street pumping station and incorporate the existing structure within the redevelopment project.<\/p>\n<p>Currently at 5000 Overlook Ave. in Blue Plains, DC Water\u2019s headquarters has \u201creached its capacity,\u201d, according to a zoning commission order filed in February 2016. In order to avoid overcrowding of the five-building Blue Plains campus, the authority needs to relocate its administrative base in order to \u201cfree-up land for the expansion and improvement of the plant\u2019s processing operations \u2026 (and) consolidate and relocate all administration-related personnel into one centrally located facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposal also mentions 70 off-street parking spaces, an entry drive, pedestrian circulation paths, rainwater collection, \u201clong wood esplanade\/boardwalk \u2026 along the building\u2019s south fa\u00e7ade\u201d and a metal grating promenade that will act as an observation platform for the Anacostia River.<\/p>\n<p><em>Rendering courtesy of Skanska<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The construction giant signed a $60 million contract with the D.C.
