The University of Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Hawaii and Columbia University were among the organizations that\u00a0submitted proposals to host\u00a0the presidential center. Last spring, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/chicago-south-side-chosen-for-obama-presidential-library-site\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Emanuel and the Obama Foundation announced<\/a> the center would be developed in South Side Chicago in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchicago.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Chicago<\/a>.
