Los Angeles<\/strong>\u2014An extensive redevelopment process aims to transform the aging Los Angeles Times printing plant into a new facility that would benefit from the current demand for creative space. The operation has been underway since the fourth quarter\u00a0of 2015, when Kearny Real Estate Company<\/a> tasked LPA Inc. with the project. The integrated design company participated in a number of workshops that were meant to focus on the adaptive reuse<\/a> of the facility.<\/p>\n

Located at 1375 Sunflower Ave. in Costa Mesa, Orange County, the plant will be redeveloped into a three-story, 300,000-square-foot creative office <\/a>asset. As it stands, the plan calls for the existing steel frame and concrete clad structure to be enhanced with the addition of mezzanines, glass elements, and new skylights. A focus will be put on natural light, with the main priority being the creation of a new dynamic space for commercial tenants.<\/p>\n

Actual construction on the facility is slated to begin this fall, with The Press offering a high-volume environment that binds the outdoors to the interiors. The 20-acre property will offer an amenity-heavy exterior element that will take shape on the facility\u2019s original rail line and loading platform. Totaling three acres, the area will provide outdoor work spaces, as well as dining, social gatherings, and recreational activities.<\/p>\n

According to Kearny Real Estate Company Partner Hoonie S. Kang, \u201cLPA created a collaborative atmosphere where the ownership, the leasing team and design team members were allowed to bring forth ideas that resulted in a vision for The Press that is innovative.\u201d<\/p>\n
