\"Southern<\/a>Austin, Texas<\/strong>\u2014Southern Power, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company<\/a> announced the acquisition of East Pecos Solar Facility located in Pecos County, near Fort Stockton. The transaction marks the company\u2019s second solar project in Texas and its 35th<\/sup> generating facility overall. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

“Southern Power’s acquisition of the East Pecos Solar Facility underscores the company’s commitment to strategically develop renewables across America,” said Southern Company Chairman, President & CEO,\u00a0Thomas Fanning. “This project aligns with its conservative business model as Southern Power has built one of the nation’s largest renewable energy<\/a> portfolios.”<\/p>\n

The 120 megawatt (MW) facility will be located on approximately 1,000 acres and is expected to encompass 1.2 million of First Solar<\/a>\u2019s thin-film, photovoltaic solar modules mounted on single-axis tracking tables.<\/p>\n

Construction began in February and is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter 2016. The electricity and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by the facility will be sold under a 15-year power purchase agreement with Austin Energy<\/a>, which will have the option to keep or sell the RECs.<\/p>\n

In November 2015, Southern Power bought a controlling stake in the 157 MW Roserock solar facility, the company\u2019s first solar project in Texas.<\/p>\n
