The holding company plans to\u00a0launch a commercial title insurance\u00a0platform, AmTrust Title Insurance Co., edging its way into\u00a0a market\u00a0that has long\u00a0been monopolized by a handful of gargantuan insurers.<\/p>\n<p>AmTrust Title will\u00a0be going up against the\u00a0four largest title insurance families:\u00a0Fidelity National Financial Inc., First American Title Insurance Co.,\u00a0Stewart Title Guaranty Co. and Old Republic National Title Insurance\u00a0Co.\u00a0\u00a0The AmTrust Financial leadership believes the timing is right in the market for another player to join the game, and\u00a0that AmTrust Title is the right player. \u00a0&#8220;AmTrust has successfully entered insurance sectors where capacity is diminishing,&#8221; Jason Gordon, newly appointed president of AmTrust Title, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\">Commercial Property Executive<\/a>. &#8220;In the title insurance space, four national underwriters write more than 85 percent\u00a0of the business, and in the commercial title insurance arena, the ever-increasing risk amounts have strained industry capacity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to experience penetrating different areas of the insurance market, AmTrust Financial sends AmTrust Title\u00a0to the table well armed with a substantial capital and surplus base\u2014$2.8 billion within the AmTrust Financial family of companies&#8211;that exceeds\u00a0that of any of the\u00a0so-called Big Four.<\/p>\n<p>The platform will also boast a cracker-jack team headed by Gordon, an industry expert who most recently held the position of\u00a0senior vice president with\u00a0Westcor Land Title Insurance Co., and formerly served as vice president and counsel at Fidelity National.\u00a0 &#8220;Title insurance as a product appears to have commodity characteristics, but commercial underwriting is a highly nuanced discipline that is delivered best by experienced counsel and sophisticated business managers. AmTrust has put together a long-experienced team that meets that description very well,&#8221; said Gordon.<\/p>\n<p>The new subsidiary will commence activities in\u00a0AmTrust Financial&#8217;s hometown of\u00a0New York City, as well as in New Jersey and Texas. The firm is also licensed in seven other states:\u00a0Hawaii, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Rhode Island and Virginia.\u00a0And a Florida license is\u00a0pending.\u00a0AmTrust Title\u00a0plans to spread like wildfire. &#8220;We are about to file in ten additional states, and will continue this expansion pace throughout the year,&#8221;\u00a0Gordon added.<\/p>\n<p>So, who&#8217;s afraid of the big bad wolf\u2014or wolves in this case?
