Xcel Energy<\/a> and CenterPoint Energy<\/a> have joined forces and are rolling out a program designed with multifamily owners and tenants in mind. The two large electric and natural gas utilities intend to help their customers save money by streamlining and simplifying the process, thus creating a one-stop approach to energy savings.<\/p>\n

The program\u2014which opened on October 1\u2014resulted from a decision by Minnesota\u2019s Public Utilities Commission earlier this year. \u201cMinnesota is a leader on energy issues because we are able to create smart policy that works for consumers and utilities alike,\u201d said Ben Passer, a policy associate at Fresh Energy. \u201cWe advocated for this program because it will help save people money by reducing their energy bills, but also because it will make the process of finding that savings much simpler overall.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program\u2019s energy saving measures have not been changed\u2014new CFL light bulbs are still being installed, along with low flow shower heads and insulating water heaters\u2014but the process was simplified. Building owners and tenants will have a single point of contact and more flexible financing options.<\/p>\n
