A sprawling 432,000-square-foot facility in Philadelphia that was used as a Tastykake factory until 2010 is now one of U-Haul Company of Pennsylvania<\/a>‘s newest property acquisitions.<\/p>\n

U-Haul Moving and Storage of Allegheny West in Philadelphia<\/p><\/div>\n

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Allegheny West<\/a> at 2801 W. Hunting Park Ave. results from the adaptive reuse of the historic six-story building, which dates back to 1923. The facility\u2019s general manager is Lily Rivera.<\/p>\n

Truck, trailer and U-Box container rentals are currently available along with moving supplies in the temporary showroom. Once renovations are complete, the 3.07-acre property will include 3,200 self-storage units.<\/p>\n

“U-Haul is going to be a big asset to the community because this is going to one of the biggest U-Haul locations nationwide, and we’ll be able to provide a lot of employment opportunities,” Rivera said. “I always try to hire within the area.”<\/p>\n

This expansion was driven by U-Haul Company’s Corporate Sustainability initiatives<\/a> meaning that the company supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Through the adaptive reuse of existing buildings, cities may seize the opportunity to save energy and resources, while also reducing their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.<\/p>\n
