Block 32 groundbreaking<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Fort Collins, Colo. officials have broken ground on Block 32, the first step towards developing a state-of-the-art municipal campus in the city\u2019s downtown neighborhood. Adolfson & Peterson Construction<\/a> (A&P) of Minneapolis has started working on the project\u2019s first phase, which includes the construction of a three-story, 37,500-square-foot City of Fort Collins Utilities Administration Building.<\/p>\n

The new office building located at the northeast corner of Laporte Ave. and N. Howes St. in Old Town Fort Collins was designed by Denver\u2019s RNL Design<\/a> to become one of the country\u2019s most energy-efficient buildings. The site also includes the restored landmark Butterfly Building which was moved 100 feet to the east to make room for the new administration building.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to be part of such a collaborative team to build this state-of-the-art facility that represents the first of its kind in the nation,\u201d said A&P Senior Vice President Tom Horsting in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n

The municipal building is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016, and will incorporate sustainable features such as solar panels, insulated enclosures and windows and Direct Current power.<\/p>\n

The Block 32 project is part of the City of Fort Collins\u2019 downtown Civic Center master plan, and is expected to achieve LEED Platinum certification. The team working on the project also includes Logan Simpson Design<\/a>, [au] workshop<\/a> and Integral Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

RNL, together with John Andary of Integral Group designed the country\u2019s two largest net zero energy facilities: the Research and Support Facility at the National Renewal Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo. and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District East Campus-Operations Center.<\/p>\n
