\"\"<\/a>Towson University recently announced its intention to break ground later this year on a much-needed project that will renovate and expand fitness, gym and administrative areas in Burdick Hall. The project will help the university enhance its student-life experience and improve its recruiting efforts.<\/p>\n

Work is expected to start this fall. The university will invest $40 million in the Burdick Expansion project. It calls for the construction of a 94,000-square-foot addition on the south side of the building. The new facility will house two multi-purpose athletic courts, an elevated sprint hill, yoga, combat and cycling studios, as well as an indoor challenge course similar to the ones on the American Ninja Warrior TV show.<\/p>\n

The $40 million project also includes the renovation of 8,000 square feet of existing office and fitness center space. It is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.<\/p>\n

Towson University hopes to finish the project in time for the fall 2017 semester. The Burdick Expansion is designed by HOK, a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm. Owings Mills-based Lewis Contractors will manage the construction of the project.<\/p>\n
