\"\"<\/a>Banner Health\u2019s first project in Tucson since its merger with the University of Arizona Health Network is moving forward. The company recently announced it has selected the contractors for its development, Banner\u2013University Medical Center Tucson.<\/p>\n

Pending zoning approvals, Sundt I DPR, Sundt Construction Inc.\u2019s joint venture with DPR Construction,\u00a0 will begin preparing the site and utilities late this year, with construction starting in early 2016. As previously reported<\/a>, Shepley Bullfinch of Phoenix and GLHN Architects and Engineers Inc. of Tucson were tapped to design the building which is expected to open in 2019. The $400 million development includes an 11-story tower that is set to replace the 40-year-old portion of the hospital at Banner \u2013 University Medical Center Tucson. The 689,000-square-foot patient tower will be configured and sized for current and future health-care technology, with 336 private patient rooms, 22 new operating rooms, imaging suites and public spaces.<\/p>\n

Banner acquired the University of Arizona Medical Center \u2014 University Campus (the former University Medical Center at 1501 North Campbell Avenue) following the merger that took place earlier this year, in February. At the same time, the Arizona-based nonprofit organization entered a 30-year Academic Affiliation Agreement with the University of Arizona to serve as the primary clinical partner to the UA Colleges of Medicine in Tucson and Phoenix.<\/p>\n
