MCZ Development has released renderings for a proposed 141-unit apartment complex at the site of the former Edgewater Medical Center in Chicago. According to a posting<\/a> on 40th<\/sup> Ward Ald. Pat O\u2019Connor\u2019s website, the developer has submitted a TIF application to the city, requesting a total of $10.7 million to complete the envisioned project.<\/p>\n

The site of the former Edgewater Medical Center on Ashland has been vacant for more than a decade. MCZ plans to close on the property by September 2015, if the proposal is approved by the city\u2019s Department of Planning. According to DNA info<\/a>, MCZ already owns the site of the center\u2019s parking garage and plans to turn it into luxury homes.<\/p>\n

MCZ\u2019s proposal for the vacant medical center includes nine studio apartments, 100 one-bedrooms and 32 two-bedrooms. Of the 141 apartments, 29 would be affordable housing, as required by ordinance. The developer also intends to undertake adaptive re-use of some of the buildings and add 141 parking spots. Chicago-based Hartshorne Plunkard Architects is in charge of the design of the former medical center.<\/p>\n

If MCZ\u2019s proposal is approved, the developer plans to start construction work in the spring of 2016. Occupancy would be complete by March 2018.<\/p>\n
