Sherman Associates of Minneapolis is moving forward with a $50 million multifamily development adjacent to its West Side Flats near downtown St. Paul, the Star Tribune reports<\/a>. The development, designed by Bloomington-based Kaas Wilson Architects, will include 184 market-rate apartment units and 82 affordable units and is expected to break ground in the spring of 2016.<\/p>\n

The two-building project is in the process of obtaining approval from the city of St. Paul and the neighborhood association, according to the Minneapolis\/St. Paul Business Journal<\/a>. \u00a0The property is adjacent to George Sherman\u2019s 178-unit West Side Flats apartment community at 84 S. Wabasha St., which was completed in 2014 and is currently 94 percent occupied.<\/p>\n

The new development will include 8,500 square feet of retail space and a 5,000-square-foot patio attached to one of the buildings, the Minneapolis\/St. Paul Business Journal reports<\/a>. The 266 apartments are expected to open in late summer 2017.<\/p>\n

Sherman Associates is currently developing several projects in Minneapolis as well, including The Encore luxury rental community and Thresher Square near the new Vikings Stadium.<\/p>\n
