\"\"<\/a>On March 11, the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing celebrated the groundbreaking for the city’s newest affordable housing community, The Springs Apartments. Housing professionals, local officials and other members of the community were present at the ceremony, held at 4300 N. Carlin Springs Road, close to The Springs site.<\/p>\n

The cost of the project is a little over $40 million. APAH will redevelop the old, 27-unit Carlyn Springs Apartments, built in 1963, into a five-story mixed-use structure at the corner of N. Carlin Springs Road and N. Thomas Street. The property will offer 104 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units and first floor office space for the new APAH headquarters. Amenities include underground parking and bicycle storage, a fitness center, a business center, a community room and landscaped courtyards. The building will also be EarthCraft certified for energy and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n

Nina Janopaul, president & CEO of APAH, said in a news release that the project provides much-needed affordable housing in the Ballston area. Of The Spring\u2019s 104 units, 47 will be for low and very low income households, those earning less than 50 percent of the Area Median Income, while 51 will be for households earning below 60 percent. There will also be six market-rate units. The project is expected to be completed next year.<\/p>\n
