Carr City Centers Chairman Oliver Carr Jr. announced on Jan. 22 that his company closed on a site for a 278-room InterContinental hotel. The project will be part of Phase I of the $2 billion Wharf mixed-use development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Carr is working on the new hotel together with Clark Enterprises; InterContinental Hotels Group; Hoffman-Madison Waterfront, the master developer of The Wharf; and PSP Investments. The D.C.-based developer did not disclose the cost of the project, but it did reveal that the Wharf InterContinental will include 17,000 square feet of meeting space, a signature restaurant, a spa, a rooftop pool, a bar and a 5,000-square-foot sky-view lounge on the 12th floor. Visitors will have access to the lounge through a separate entrance with a private elevator.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a news release, Carr President Austin Flajser said that the \u201dwaterfront views and amenities found in this hotel will be unlike anything else in the city.\u201d Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2016. The Wharf InterContinental is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Carr, the new hotel will be LEED Silver certified, contributing to the LEED-ND Gold status of The Wharf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Wharf development is located on 24 acres of land along D.C.\u2019s Southwest Waterfront. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/regions\/mid-atlantic\/phase-1-of-wharf-m-u-waterfront-development-in-dc-breaks-ground\/1004093055.html\" ><em>Work on Phase I<\/em><\/a> of the $2 billion project started last spring.
