David Whitney Building Historic Atrium<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The redevelopment of Detroit landmark The David Whitney Building is complete. Following an investment of $94.5 million, the now fully renovated structure features 108 apartments at The Residences and a 136-key Aloft hotel, reports Crain\u2019s Detroit Business<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

According to Crain\u2019s, the redevelopment project kicked off in 2011, when the property was picked up for $3.3 million by Whitney Partners LLC, a joint venture comprised of The Roxbury Group and VOS Hospitality, a division of Trans Inns Management Inc. At that point, the 1915-built structure, located in one of Detroit\u2019s hot spots, 1553 Woodward Avenue, had been sitting vacant for over a decade. As previously reported<\/a><\/em>, the project was funded by $82.5 million secured by The Roxbury Group and $8.5 million granted by the Michigan Strategic Fund. Renovation work included restoring exterior design elements removed in the 1950s and the four-story lobby with its glass atrium. VOS Hospitality, the lifestyle boutique arm of Trans Inns, will manage the hotel and apartments as well the property\u2019s retail\/restaurant space, located at street level.<\/p>\n

Occupying floors two through nine, the Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney marks the brand\u2019s debut in Motor City. The recently opened Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. franchise features 136 loft-style rooms at an affordable price. Amenities include eight meeting rooms totaling 6,670-square feet of flexible meeting space, a business center, 24-hour fitness center, Aloft\u2019s signature W XYZ bar, billiards, bowling and on-site parking.<\/p>\n

Located on the building\u2019s top nine floors, The Residences comprise 108 apartments featuring high-end finishes such as stainless steel appliances, ceramic tile, hardwood floors and granite countertops. Units include one- , two- and three-bedroom apartments. Residents can enjoy access to amenities such as a fitness center, business center, covered parking, storage units, private elevator, housekeeping, valet parking, catering and 24-hour security. \u00a0According to Crain\u2019s Detroit Business<\/em>, all units are occupied, with a waiting list in place. Residents will start moving in beginning in January in a phased manner.<\/p>\n
