Monroe Street Market was constructed on five city blocks adjacent to the Brookland-CUA Metro station and just across the street from Catholic University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Plans called for the construction of three buildings: Brookland Works, Portland Flats and Cornerstone. Together, they offer 720 residences, 83,000 square feet of street-level retail, 27 artists\u2019 studios along the Arts Walk open-air pedestrian plaza, as well as a 3,000-square-foot community arts center. Bozzuto plans to start work on 45 townhomes next year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the developers, most of Monroe Street Market\u2019s resident amenities are located in Cornerstone. It features almost 20,000 square feet of amenity space, including indoor and outdoor lounges, a fitness center, a pool and more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Monroe Street Market is home to several retailers: Barnes &amp; Noble @ Catholic University, Brookland Pint, Busboys and Poets, &amp;pizza, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, The Bike Rack and Filter Coffeehouse. H&amp;R Retail was hired to find retail tenants for the project. The latest addition is a health-conscious, quick-serve restaurant called H\u00e4lsa. It will open a 1,500-square-foot location in Monroe Street Market\u2019s Portland Flats building in late fall. Monroe Street Market also hosts a a farmers market every Saturday from May through November.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mayor Vincent Gray and District of Columbia Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie joined representatives from The Bozzuto Group, Abdo Development and The Catholic University of America on Oct. 2 to celebrate the grand opening. During the celebration, a plaza within Monroe Street Market was officially dedicated to Bishop David O\u2019Connell, former president of Catholic University and the current Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, N.J.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThrough Monroe Street Market, we have truly created a sense of place within D.C.\u2019s Brookland neighborhood,\u201d Toby Bozzuto, president of The Bozzuto Group, said in a statement for the press. \u201cIt was important to honor Bishop O\u2019Connell because he was an integral part of the entire development process.
