\"\"<\/a>Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants recently announced it has purchased the landmark Chicago building located at 39 South LaSalle St., with plans to convert it into a four-star, 281-room hotel. The former New York Life and later LaSalle-Monroe Building was constructed back in 1894 and is one of only two Chicago buildings designed by renowned architect William Le Baron Jenney.<\/p>\n

The historic 14-story building will undergo a $106 million renovation, according to The Chicago Tribune<\/a>. <\/em>Ave Bradley, Kimpton\u2019s Senior Vice President of Design, will lead the design team in collaboration with New York-based Gensler and Los Angeles-based Beleco.<\/p>\n

\u201cChicago has proven to be a consistently successful market for Kimpton, and this new hotel will give us an opportunity to leverage many operational synergies here with our other four hotels,” says Mike Depatie, Kimpton President and CEO.<\/p>\n

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants currently owns four hotels in Chicago, namely Hotel Burnham, Hotel Allegro, Hotel Monaco, and Hotel Palomar.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to expand our footprint in this great city, and bring Kimpton\u2019s unique design and heartfelt approach to hospitality to this historic Chicago building,” Depatie says.<\/p>\n

Upon completion, the property on S. LaSalle St. will feature 9,500 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, 12,500 square feet of event and meeting space on the 14th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup> floors, a new bar and restaurant, a Library Bar on the 2nd<\/sup> floor, and a top floor ballroom.<\/p>\n

The renovated building is slated for a 2016 opening.<\/p>\n
