{"id":1004100433,"date":"2014-07-11T21:06:03","date_gmt":"2014-07-12T05:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/?p=275725"},"modified":"2020-04-01T07:07:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T15:07:35","slug":"35m-warehouse-district-hotel-sparks-local-opposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/35m-warehouse-district-hotel-sparks-local-opposition\/","title":{"rendered":"$35M Warehouse District Hotel Sparks Local Opposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Eliza Theiss, Associate Editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A new 75-foot hotel proposed in the Crescent City\u2019s Warehouse District is heating up talks regarding the city\u2019s master plan and height limitations.\u00a0 The project, proposed by Ohio-based Filmore Hospitality, envisions a two-building, 178-key Cambria Suites hotel, complete with a meeting room and restaurant, for an L-shaped tract on the 600 block of Tchoupitoulas Street, reports <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theneworleansadvocate.com\/home\/9621438-172\/city-council-to-decide-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The New Orleans Advocate<\/a><\/em>. The site, comprising 10 lots, is currently a surface parking lot but is owned by hotelier Warren Reuther, who\u2019s got a sales contract in place with Filmore for the site. Filmore\u2019s project \u2013 boasting an 85-foot height at the time \u2013 was voted down by the City Planning Commission due to concerns regarding traffic, height and disrupting the historic character of the neighborhood. The area height limitation is 65 feet and five stories, while Filmore\u2019s hotel, somewhat downsized from its initial 85 feet, would rise six stories high, with a 75-foot height at its Commerce Street entrance and a 65-foot height on the side fronting Tchoupitoulas Street.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_275726\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 310px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2014\/07\/Granaio-Lofts.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-275726\" title=\"Granaio Lofts\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2014\/07\/Granaio-Lofts.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Granaio Lofts<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The site is in Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell\u2019s district; she recently rejected the proposed $20 million luxury apartment project Granaio due to similar concerns, reports <em><a href=\"https:\/\/canalstreetbeat.com\/proposed-35-million-warehouse-district-hotel-up-for-approval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Canal Street Beat<\/a>.<\/em> The project, helmed by local real estate developer Josh Bruno, envisioned an 18-story apartment project with a two-story penthouse on top. Designed by local architect Wayne Troyer of Studio WTA, it would have included amenities such as a pool, outdoor balconies, private parking, Crestoron technology to control energy usage, lighting, heating, cooling and floodwater management, and a green living bio wall. Interiors would have been signed by Philippe Starck, with internationally awarded urban landscape designer Raymond Jungles also contributing to the project.<\/p>\n<p>The New Orleans City Council is now expected to make a decision regarding the Cambria Suites hotel.
