Following an extensive reconstruction period scheduled to begin next year, the famed Coco Palms Resort on Kauai will reopen under the Hyatt Hotels brand in early 2017. <\/span><\/p>\n

Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corp. recently announced it had entered into a management agreement with the owners of the 363-room property, Coco Palms Hui LLC. The entity is headed by Tyler Greene and Chad Waters of the Greene Waters Group at Bridge Real Estate in Honolulu. <\/span><\/p>\n

Located in the Wailua area of southeastern Kauai, Coco Palms was once among the most sought after destination resorts in Hawaii. The property was shuttered in 1992, after having been severely damaged during Hurricane Iniki, which struck the Garden Isle in September of that year. <\/span><\/p>\n

The hotel was built in 1953 and became world famous in 1961 with the on-property filming of the Elvis Presley movie \u201cBlue Hawaii.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The upcoming redevelopment project will involve the renovation of 331 guestrooms and 32 bungalows, multiple restaurants, lounges and swimming pools. Upon completion, the restored Coco Palms Resort will also feature a community center highlighting the cultural significance of the site that was once home to Kauai\u2019s last reigning queen, Queen Deborah Kapule Kekaiha’akulou. <\/span><\/p>\n

The guest experience will be enhanced by the original footprint of the property, which will be preserved; its signature lagoon; the adjacent Wailua Beach and River; one of the largest coconut groves in the state; and the amazing views of the Nounou Mountain, locally known as the Sleeping Giant.<\/span><\/p>\n
