George Washington University has selected Skanska USA Commercial Development Inc. to construct the project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0The 25,000-square-foot site is located just five blocks from the White House and one block from the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metrorail Station, close to the neighborhood\u2019s numerous retail amenities. It is currently occupied by six row houses and the 2100 West office building. However, Square 75A is fully entitled with an approved PUD for a 250,000-square-foot Class A office building, with about 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The new building will be LEED Gold certified. It will feature a glass curtain wall overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue, offering its tenants great views of the Washington Monument, Washington National Cathedral and U.S. Capitol Building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Skanska USA has signed a ground lease with George Washington University for the site. Although it is not the only developer, it will self-finance the project and also serve as the general contractor. San Francisco-based Gensler is the project\u2019s architect. A date for the groundbreaking has not been announced yet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe opportunity to bring a new development to Pennsylvania Avenue doesn\u2019t come along very often. We are not only excited to bring something new, modern and sustainable to this neighborhood but to fill in one of the last remaining development sites in the CBD,\u201d Robert Ward, executive vice president &amp; regional manager of Skanska USA Commercial Development in Washington, D.C., said in a statement for the press. \u201cAs we kick off the beginning stages of this process, we look forward to working with the University and the Foggy Bottom neighborhood to ensure our development brings value to this growing D.C. community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The George Washington University is pleased to have forged this relationship with Skanska for the development of Square 75A,\u201d said Lou Katz, executive vice president &amp; treasurer of the university.\u00a0\u201cWe are certain that Skanska will deliver a world-class office building at the edge of our campus on Pennsylvania Avenue.
