Move over, LEED certification. There\u2019s a new industry standard on the block.<\/p>\n

WELL is not exactly a competitor. It\u2019s more of a complementary certification. The U.S. Green Building Council\u2019s well-established LEED measures the energy efficiency of a building; the International Well Building Institute\u2019s new WELL evaluates a building\u2019s impact on occupant health and well-being. Still an emerging phenomenon, it is gaining acceptance from several industry players and is expected by creators of the standard to eventually achieve LEED\u2019s popularity and presence as a standard practice.<\/p>\n

While wellness certifications have been applied to multi-family dwellings, hotels and restaurants, it is now being extended to the corporate sector. In fact, CBRE Group Inc.\u2019s new global corporate headquarters in downtown Los Angeles is the world\u2019s first commercial office space to be certified under the WELL Building Standard pilot program.<\/p>\n
