A $1 billion-plus, 2,200-acre master-planned community just off I-10 in Coachella, Calif., has received unanimous approval by the city council there, design firm KTGY Group Inc., Architecture and Planning, of Irvine, Calif., the project\u2019s master planner, announced Monday.<\/p>\n

When completed in about 20 years, La Entrada will include about 7,800 residential units at a variety of price-points and 1.5 million square feet of retail and office space, four new schools, and nearly 900 acres of parks, playgrounds, trails and other open space.<\/p>\n

The site is along the eastern foothills of the Coachella Valley, about 28 miles east of Palm Springs and 130 miles east of Los Angeles. Ground is expected to be broken in two to three years.<\/p>\n

The La Entrada Master Planned Community is owned by PSAV LCC and managed by New West Development, Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

The retail and office space will be sited primarily in Gateway Village, one of three villages in the development, and the one that\u2019s closest to I-10. A new freeway interchange with I-10, at Avenue 50, will be built in connection with the development.<\/p>\n

As of press time, KTGY had not responded to a request for comment on the development. A close look at the project plan, however, suggests that up to 2,552 units of the housing, planned for a density of 13 to 25 units per acre, will be multi-family oriented.<\/p>\n

Other key elements of the plan, which emphasizes foot traffic, include new sports fields and a possible regional soccer facility that would also be suitable for other sporting events and for music festivals, KTGY Principal Ken Ryan said in a release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
