With the promise of major upgrades to Salt Lake City International Airport on the way, other major projects seem to be taking flight. The catalyst is the airport’s $1.8 billion terminal renovation program. A joint venture of \u00a0Big-D Construction and Holder Construction Co. has won the contract for the redevelopment.<\/p>\n

The team will redevelop and expand the facility based on designs provided by HOK Architects.Starting next year, phase one of the decade-long project will focus on the airport’s car rental facilities. according to\u00a0the\u00a0Deseret News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Reports have surfaced that Boeing may pick Utah as the location for building the 777X airplane. Gov. Gary Herbert \u00a0recently held talks with Boeing \u00a0representatives about producing the new plane in the state, . The aerospace company already has a strong presence in Utah, including a facility in West Jordan that produces tail components, as well as a fabrication and assembly facility for the Dreamliner aircraft.<\/p>\n

Boeing already has 800 employees in Utah, making the state a frontrunner for further investment, Deseret News<\/em>\u00a0reported. Boeing will reportedly be sending additional jobs to states such as South Carolina, Texas and Utah after a breakdown in talks with unions over a long-term contract, the newspaper noted. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
