{"id":1004086845,"date":"2013-11-13T16:11:35","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T00:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/?p=217611"},"modified":"2020-05-08T00:32:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T08:32:00","slug":"penn-announces-new-college-house-at-hill-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/penn-announces-new-college-house-at-hill-field\/","title":{"rendered":"Penn Announces New College House at Hill Field"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Veronica Grecu, Associate Editor<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The University of Pennsylvania recently announced it will build a new college house at Hill Field as part of PennConnects, a residential program started in 1998 that already includes 11 student residences within the larger campus area.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_217612\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 250px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2013\/11\/Penn-New-College-House.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-217612 \" title=\"Penn New College House\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2013\/11\/Penn-New-College-House.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">University of Pennsylvania New College House<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new building will occupy roughly 198,000 square feet of space at the corner of 33<sup>rd<\/sup>, 34<sup>th<\/sup>, Walnut and Chestnut streets. At six stories high, the building will include a combination of 94 apartments that will accommodate 350 undergraduate students along with 15 faculty and staff members. The new college house will also feature classrooms, music practice spaces, a media center, student lounges and a new dining venue. A central courtyard called the Lifted Lawn will serve as an outdoor recreation space and small concerts venue for the building\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Around half of the $125 million required for this project has already been raised from various sources including private donations from Emeritus Trustee Stephen Heyman W\u201959 and his wife, Barbara Heyman, and the Lauder Foundation, according to the university.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Penn\u2019s new college house was designed by Philadelphia-based architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson to achieve LEED Platinum certification thanks to a number of \u201cgreen\u201d features such as the use of locally sourced recycled construction materials and the creation of a green roof as part of a stormwater management plan, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nakedphilly.com\/university-city\/hill-field-begone-penn-planning-big-new-dorm\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">NakedPhilly<\/a><\/em> reports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Construction at the new student residence will begin in 2014 and will be completed by the fall 2016 semester.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Rendering via the University of Pennsylvania<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Pennsylvania recently announced it will build a new college house at Hill Field as part of PennConnects, a residential program that started back in 1998 and already includes 11 student residences within the larger campus area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":258,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[21742,1494],"tags":[1815],"class_list":["post-1004086845","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-latest","category-philadelphia","tag-national"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v28.0 (Yoast SEO v28.0) -
