A $7.5 million project that broke ground in Albuquerque will serve both ABQ RIDE and New Mexico\u2019s Rail Runner Express. The Monta\u00f1o Transit Center will primarily accommodate travelers in North Valley and in the Monta\u00f1o\/Montgomery river-crossing corridor. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe think this will help with some of the redevelopment and development within this portion in the valley,\u201d said Bruce Rizzieri, director of ABQ RIDE.<\/p>\n

Vector Engineering is the designer and G. Sandoval Construction is the contractor. The latter is known to have managed the construction of Las Cruces\u2019 Intermodal Transit Center that opened this summer, reports Albuquerque Business First<\/a><\/em>. The hub is designed in a Pueblo Revival style with a rail platform, a parking lot with 291 spaces, bike racks, lockers and free Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new transit center is great news for not just the North Valley but the greater Albuquerque metro area,\u201d Commissioner Debbie O\u2019Malley said in a statement on the groundbreaking. \u201cThis new facility provides more options to travelers, from taking a ride on the New Mexico Rail Runner Express, to catching a bus, organizing a carpool or commuting by bicycle.\u201d She is the advocate for the project who applied for $6.7 million in federal funds that made the project possible.<\/p>\n

Completion date is set for January 2014.<\/p>\n
