Renowned George R. R. Martin, \u201cin a fit of madness\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/cities\/albuquerque\/writer-george-martin-purchases-to-renovate-jean-cocteau-cinema\/\" >purchased the building<\/a> in April of this year, having in mind the glorious years when the cinema was home to independent and foreign films, claiming for seven years in a row the Best of Santa Fe award. <a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2013\/07\/Jean-Cocteau-RR-Martin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-156013\" title=\"Jean Cocteau RR Martin\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2013\/07\/Jean-Cocteau-RR-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marshall Thompson of Constructive Assets has been the contractor who managed the renovations and the writer\u2019s nervous breakdown, as he himself says. The rehabilitation of the property has been done with respect to the initial design; the old marquee is still there, just with bright LEDs instead of the old fluorescents. The auditorium hasn\u2019t been modified visibly except for the addition of wheelchair seating, but the lobby and the concessions area shows the bold new art deco design of Jayne Franck.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The screen has been replaced with a larger and brighter one and the new digital projector is a NEC 900 Digital Projection System and Integrated Media Server. The new sound system is a Dolby Digital Surround Sound Processor CP650, assuring a much improved picture and sound quality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To celebrate the return to life of the theater, R. R. Martin planned free admission for the first week to all shows. Aug. 9 will present to the Santa-Fe film-going community two classic feature films: Orpheus by Jean Cocteau, and Forbidden Planet, MGM\u2019s big budget SF movie from 1956.
