In April 2011 the 115,000-square-foot building was purchased for $8 million from Berkeley Investments by Boston-based Norwich Partners LLC, according to data from<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.propertyshark.com\/mason\/ma\/Suffolk-County\/Maps?star=1&amp;zoom=1&amp;x=0.506755185309333&amp;y=0.479334204268699&amp;report=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> PropertyShark<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shortly after closing the deal, the new owner embarked on a $45 million renovation and rehabilitation project that aimed to create an environmentally sustainable extended-stay hotel that would transform Congress Street into a vibrant retail corridor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Residence Inn By Marriott &#8211; Boston Downtown\/Seaport Hotel adds 120 urban suites to an area that, according to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/businessupdates\/2013\/06\/21\/new-residence-inn-marriott-adds-hotel-rooms-area-need-lodging\/XvCXQfgN9EkFVj23tocKxH\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Boston.com<\/a><\/em>, is in great need of lodging now that the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and state officials have approved a $2 billion expansion of the nearby Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
