The Tavaci Development near Big Cottonwood Canyon is headed for a decisive Aug. 6 hearing before the Salt Lake County Council as developer Terry Diehl attempts to revive the long-stalled project, The Salt Lake Tribune <\/em><\/a>reports. Diehl wants to replace the original plan for 43 half-acre residential lots with a multi-family development that would include other commercial real estate categories and buildings up to 100 feet tall.<\/p>\n

However, Diehl faces considerable hurdles, as the proposal has yet to pass muster with key county agencies. On June 17, the Salt Lake County Planning Commission recommended rejection of the project, which is called Cottonwood Estates. Commissioners criticized the proposal because of what they described as incompatibility with the master plan adopted by Cottonwood Heights in 1992.<\/p>\n

In its current form, the plan for Cottonwood Estates would require a zoning change to permit high-density development. Located on a 47-acre unincorporated parcel, the site was part of Cottonwood Heights until Diehl successfully petitioned to separate it from the city.<\/p>\n

In other news, visitors to Salt Lake City\u2019s EnergySolutions Arena will soon see a new feature: a high-definition video display system that will replace the current system. The home of the National Basketball Association\u2019s Utah Jazz will also feature far larger screens. Other digital improvements are also in the pipeline for the 19,911-seat arena, according to the Standard-Examiner<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
