Chicago\u2019s Navy Pier redevelopment plan, dubbed the \u201cCentennial Vision,\u201d was revealed last week by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) and the recently formed Navy Pier Inc. The improvements will include expanded recreation space and more restaurants and theaters, as well as tourist attractions for tourists. According to the Chicago Journal<\/em>, the plan is also focused on expanding the Chicago Children\u2019s Museum and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, at an estimated total cost of $155 million.<\/p>\n In a statement issued last week, the museum\u2019s president and CEO, Jennifer Farrington, declared that Chicago Children\u2019s Museum is actively pursuing a world-class home at Navy Pier. Approximately 100,000 square feet will be added to the museum\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n According to the MPEA, the 3,300-foot long Navy Pier, which attracted 8.7 million visitors in 2010, will undergo interior renovation of the Family Pavilion, which will include an IMAX theater, indoor botanical garden, restaurants and shops. The \u201cCentennial Vision\u201d redevelopment plan will also include a boutique hotel built at the east end of the pier. The design team and timeline for completion are yet to be decided.<\/p>\n The Gazette Chicago<\/em> states that the completion of Roosevelt University\u2019s 32-story \u201cvertical-campus\u201d located at 425 S. Wabash Ave. was announced last week during a ceremony held at Congress Parkway and Wabash Avenue. James J. Mitchell III, chair of Roosevelt University\u2019s board of trustees, who attended the ceremony, revealed that a 460-foot glass tower will be built next to the iconic auditorium.<\/p>\n The university\u2019s new building will house more than 600 full-time students on its upper floors, while the lower floors will provide classrooms, lecture halls, science labs, administrative space, conference rooms, dining and recreation centers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Veronica Grecu, Associate Editor
