Everett city officials are evaluating four proposals to acquire or lease and redevelop\u00a0the 3.9-acre site of a\u00a0former high school.\u00a0\u00a0Though the\u00a0city’s initial request didn\u2019t specify how the property should be used, all four proposals include affordable, market-rate and senior housing projects elements\u00a0and would retain the school building, according to\u00a0The Boston Globe<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Submitting proposals were\u00a0Capital Group of Peabody, Neighborhood of Affordable Housing of Boston, Women\u2019s Institute for Housing and Economic Development of Boston and Dakota Partners of Waltham.<\/p>\n

Built\u00a0in 1924, the building was\u00a0renovated in 1974 and 1975 and closed in 2007 when the school moved to a\u00a0new building\u00a0on Elm Street.\u00a0The city council\u00a0declared the site surplus\u00a0three years\u00a0later.\u00a0\u00a0The Boys and Girls Club of Middlesex County currently occupies part of the property, and\u00a0groups are allowed to hold events at the\u00a0field house.<\/p>\n

According to Jill M. Barringer, assistant city solicitor and chief procurement officer, the price offered by the developers will be a factor\u00a0in the selection, as city officials hope to generate income from the property. Barringer added that the larger goal is to bring a top-quality development to a key area of the city.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Globe<\/em> also reports that a partnership of\u00a0WS Development Associates and National Development is\u00a0moving foward with plans to build a lifestyle\u00a0center\u00a0in Lynnfield. The 400,000-square-foot MarketStreet Lynnfield will include a mix of restaurants, entertainment centers and shops. According to Ted Tye, managing partner of National Development,\u00a0 the plan calls for a town-center setting: an old-fashioned town green\u00a0ringed by\u00a0restaurants, retail and office space.\u00a0The development, which is slated for a Spring 2012 construction start, will also include 180 residential units and 80,000 square feet of office space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
