The long-awaited renovation project of Brooklyn\u2019s historic Parkside Ave. finally started in the presence of members of the Flatbush community and city and state officials who attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The $3 million Parkside Playground project is being financed by Council Member Mathieu Eugene, who allocated $2.45 million, and $517,000 granted by Mayor Bloomberg<\/p>\n

According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle<\/em>, the new Parkside Playground will feature new play equipment for climbing and exploration, swings, safety surfacing and three full-sized basketball courts built on the existing asphalt area and designed for youngsters and adults alike. Parents and seniors will enjoy their own custom-designed seating area that will be surrounded by colorful planting beds. Other improvements include an adult fitness area, a new outdoor classroom with decorative concrete pavers and new game tables with benches. New chainlink and steel panel fencing will be installed instead of the existing perimeter fence, and sustainable improvements will feature efficient rainwater runoff systems that will flow into the flowers and trees areas.<\/p>\n

In residential news, Halstead Property Development Marketing announced that 68 of the 73 affordable housing units at Beacon Towers have been sold. The eight-story apartment building is located at 29 West 138th<\/sup> Street between Lenox and 5th<\/sup> Avenues and was constructed by a joint venture between Strategic Development and Construction Group and Lemle & Wolff Inc. The sale price for the remaining five units starts at $275,000 for a one-bedroom and $335,000 for a two-bedroom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
