{"id":1004053174,"date":"2012-03-12T07:10:23","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T15:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/?p=38799"},"modified":"2020-04-07T08:24:49","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T16:24:49","slug":"hearst-tower-is-new-york-citys-most-sustainable-office-building-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/hearst-tower-is-new-york-citys-most-sustainable-office-building-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearst Tower is New York City\u2019s Most Sustainable Office Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Veronica Grecu, Associate Editor<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The U.S. Green Building Council (UCGBC) recently awarded Hearst Tower, one of the first green office buildings in New York City,\u00a0a LEED Gold certification for new construction and a LEED Platinum award\u2014the highest possible rating for sustainable building operations and best maintenance practices.<a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/03\/hearst-tower-ny.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-38800\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/03\/hearst-tower-ny.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Completed in 1928 at a cost of $2 million, the building located at 300 W. 57th Street near Columbus Circle serves as the global headquarters of the Hearst Corporation\u2014one of the nation\u2019s largest media and information conglomerates. The company runs more than 300 magazines, 29 TV stations, a variety of internet businesses and a handful of real estate ventures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An uncommon triangular-shaped tower designed by architect Norman Foster was added in 2006, making the steel structure the first skyscraper to be developed in New York following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 and also one of the first green commercial facilities in the city. Soon after its completion, the tower received the Emporis Skyscraper Award and became the best office tower in the world completed in 2006.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In recent years, the office building implemented energy efficiency features and regular evaluation of energy-saving measures that led to a 40 percent decrease in total consumption.
