{"id":1004053156,"date":"2012-05-28T11:59:41","date_gmt":"2012-05-28T19:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/?p=49541"},"modified":"2022-12-05T00:19:24","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T08:19:24","slug":"46-million-investment-brings-green-manufacturing-to-the-brooklyn-navy-yard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/46-million-investment-brings-green-manufacturing-to-the-brooklyn-navy-yard\/","title":{"rendered":"$46 Million Investment Brings Green Manufacturing to the Brooklyn Navy Yard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>By Veronica Grecu, Associate Editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation will invest $46 million to convert three former Navy machine shops into a state-of-the-art Green Manufacturing Center, creating almost 300 construction jobs in the initial phase and approximately 400 permanent jobs.<a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/05\/Brooklyn-Navy-Yard-Green-Manufacturing-Center.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-49543\" title=\"Brooklyn Navy Yard Green Manufacturing Center\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/05\/Brooklyn-Navy-Yard-Green-Manufacturing-Center.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Governor Andrew Cuomo along with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and other local officials agree that this innovative project is a key component to the City\u2019s long-term economic growth. After $200 million in infrastructure investments by the City, State and federal governments and over $500 million in private investments for new and renovated industrial buildings, the 300-acre Brooklyn Navy Yard now houses more than 275 businesses employing as many as 6,000 workers, almost twice the number of people employed in 2001.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The new Green Manufacturing Center (pictured) will continue Brooklyn\u2019s waterfront expansion with the reuse of buildings 28, 123 and 128 into a 220,000-square-foot multi-tenant, LEED Silver certified facility. Construction at the site is scheduled to start this summer and will take around 18 months to complete.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The center will have two anchor tenants: Crye Precision\u2014a designer and manufacturer of body armor and apparel for the U.S. military as well as federal and state law enforcement agencies\u2014that will lease 80,000 square feet, consolidating its multiple sites into one central location and adding around 100 new jobs; and Macro Sea, a real estate developer that will occupy more than 50,000 square feet of space for New Lab, a facility that promotes design and manufacturing innovation by using advanced technology. According to an official statement from Governor\u2019s Andrew Cuomo Press Office, Crye will spend approximately $9 million on its fit-out and equipment and Macro Sea will spend approximately $10 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/05\/bergman-real-estate-group.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-49542\" title=\"bergman real estate group\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/05\/bergman-real-estate-group.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"97\" \/><\/a>In regional news, Bergman Real Estate Group, a privately owned real estate investment firm, announced last week that five buildings in its New Jersey portfolio have earned the EnergyStar certification for meeting high energy-efficiency performance levels set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Bergman properties are 100 South Jefferson Road in Whippany, 25 B Vreeland Road in Florham Park, 45 Eisenhower Drive in Paramus, the Woodbridge Towers in Iselin, and Kalisa Park in Paramus.
